“Portraiture can be truth. Is it the truth of the photographer or of the subject? Or the relationship between the two? While I want my subjects to be comfortable and feel like themselves, I tend to set up artificial environments or conditions that empathize how I see the subject or how I wish the world could be. If I have spent any time with you, I have an idea of how I want to shoot your portrait.”
